Baibao Rescue and Adoption Society Application

Why do we ask these questions?

  • Many pets end up being returned to a shelter due to a misunderstanding, lack of patience, or a feeling of being overwhelmed.
  • Some people are not ready to invest the time, money, and resources necessary to raise a dog. Sometimes, pets and families are not a good match.
  • In order to prevent these upsetting situations, careful screening is pivotal for success.
  • Though the questions are thorough and plentiful, they are meant to create the best match possible between parent and pet.

Home Check

Baibao Rescue and Adoption Society requires a thorough screening process to ensure that the dogs are placed in a home where they will not only be cherished for the rest of their life but also receive the appropriate care and nurturing their needs to thrive. • Please make sure the whole family present for the home visit. • This process will take approximately ½ hour to an hour. • Please note we will take a brief tour of your home (both interior and exterior) and will take photos for our reference.

Conditions

Veterinary Care
You agree to provide the best available care to the dog in a timely manner. Any veterinary problems that may arise, including serious illness requiring emergency care or surgery is your responsibility and you are responsible for all related costs.

Safe Environment
Where applicable, you will provide a secure fenced yard with ample room for outdoor exercise. If fencing needs repair or modification in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the dog, you agree to make any necessary repairs prior to allowing the dog access to the yard. You agree to maintain the security of the fencing in the future to further secure the dog.

You understand that gardeners, safeguard, contractors, and utility workers are not responsible for the safety of the dog. Therefore the adoptee must be kept indoors when workmen have access to the yard.

NOTE:
Identification You agree that the dog will be microchipped and WILL ALWAYS be wearing an identification tag with the owner’s current telephone number(s).
Lost Dog You agree to make an immediate and serious effort to find the dog if he/she becomes lost, by filing lost reports with the local police, animal control authorities, animal shelters, SPCAs, and local veterinarians and pet stores, post lost dog signs, place lost dog ads in your local paper, and contact us for additional support and advice.

Furthermore, you understand that if the loss was the result of negligence or failure to comply with the covenants of this agreement, we reserve the right not to return the dog and to place the dog into a new home.

No Right to Transfer
You agree to adopt the dog with the goal of providing him/her a forever and loving home. In the case of international adoption, the dog must travel very far by air and go through a rather long and stressful process to arrive at your home.

We ask you to ONLY adopt the dog after very thorough consideration of the fact that you must be fully committed to loving and caring for the dog throughout his/her entire life.

If you are adopting our Chinese dogs, the dog will be travelling across the world to share his/her life with you; and out of love and respect for them, we ask that you NEVER give up custody of the dog unless such an outcome becomes unavoidable due to factors beyond your control.

You understand and agree that we are fully entitled to make follow-up visits or phone calls to ascertain that all of the covenants and clauses of this agreement are being satisfied. You are obligated to cooperate with us.

If at any time in the future you cannot continue to provide proper care for the dog, you will not abandon, give or sell the dog to another person, company, organisation, medical research, pound or animal shelter without consulting us priorly. And you would cooperate with us to find the best solution for the dog.

You agree to do one or more of the following:
A. Obtain approval from us to transfer the ownership of the dog to a friend or relative. We must approve the new adopter who will be required to sign an agreement similar to this one.

B. Agree to cover the costs to board the dog for an agreed-upon time, allowing us to actively seek a new home and then relinquish the dog to us when a home is found.

C. Return the dog to us. Importantly, you agree to provide safe and loving care of the dog until he/she is re-homed/returned. You agree to safely transport the dog to the determined new home, foster home or boarding facility, and will return any/all paperwork and supplies provided by us at that time.

Euthanasia
You agree that you may not euthanise the dog except in the case of the dog’s terminal illness or injury, or old age accompanied by pain and suffering. In that case, the euthanasia must be performed by a licensed veterinarian and you must inform us prior to making the decision to euthanise the dog.

Breach of Agreement / Liquidated Damages:
In the event that you do not comply with the terms of this agreement, or the dog is abused or neglected, we hold the right to recover the dog from you upon demand, and the dog will be surrendered to us immediately.

In addition, without waiving any of our rights under this agreement, if you do not surrender the dog to us, you will owe us a payment in the amount of $2,500 agreed between us as just and reasonable liquidated damages to compensate us for our costs and expenses in connection with your breach of this agreement and we reserve our rights to reacquire the dog.
